HCO received a three year grant from the Minnesota Children’s Trust Fund to start a Family Resource Home. This home provides respite care for children with disabilities. There are two locations. One location provides care for children 0 to 10 and the other home provides care for children 10 to 21.
The services provided at these facilities are respite and In-home care/habilitative services. These services are licensed under Day Care and Foster Care licensing to provide care to 10 children and up to 4 children overnight.
While the children are there they learn potty training, how to use utensils, patience, sharing, and communication skills. They do go on outings to the library, Recreation Center, and McDonalds. They also take children to appointments such as physical therapy. It is stressed and carefully monitored that these facilities provide an educational atmosphere in everyday life, and not used as a babysitting service.
