Houston County Networks and ABLE staff developed a PowerPoint presentation o­n a laptop computer in order to allow a person with limited verbal communication skills to lead her own annual meeting.

This provided a means for the person to communicate to others what is important to her. She can communicate her wants, needs and preferences during the annual meeting and at other times too. Pictures and words were selected to express her preferences and interests and saved o­n PowerPoint. During the meeting the person was able to push a button to have the pictures change o­n a television set. This process allows someone with communication barriers to take a more active part in meetings involving their lives!
