What is Snoezelen?

Meaning to "sniff" and "doze," the Dutch word Snoezelen was developed in the Netherlands in 1975. The ultimate goal was to create a natural alternative to traditional medications resulting in therapeutic benefits.

What is a Snoezelen Room?

This place of relaxation, pleasure and pure enjoyment was designed to gently stimulate the primary senses of sight, hearing, touch, and smell. People with sensory and learning disabilities are able to explore different sensory experiences through the use of lighting effects, tactile surfaces, soothing music, relaxing essential oils, and more.

How are concumers involved in a Snoezelen Room?

Trained staff, friend, or family member accompanies each consumer during each session in order to gently introduce and apply the sensory tools making their experience and independent exploration of discoveries.
